The hood is the little fold of skin over the tip of the clit. It works like a lid. The tip underneath is easy to overdo.
Quick answer: It joins the inner lips. Some barely cover the tip. Some cover most of it. Both are fine. A lot of people like touch through the hood, not straight on the tip. You do not have to pull it back to be doing it right. Bliss sits on the outside of that fold. It is not a tool for getting underneath.
What it is
It is skin. A soft fold, continuous with the inner lips, resting over the most sensitive part of the clit. When you are turned on it often shifts a little, the way any fold moves when tissue underneath swells. When you move a hand, a mouth, or a toy, it moves with them.
Anatomy texts call it a prepuce. You can ignore the word. What matters is that the tip is rarely sitting naked in the open. The hood is what the world usually meets first.
Why it is there
The tip is easy to overwhelm. A fold of skin is a built-in layer between that tip and whatever is touching you. Direct contact can go from good to sharp in a second. Touch through the hood is often kinder, and it is a complete way to touch. You are not doing a beginner version of the real thing.
People get sold the idea that the hood should be trained, peeled, or “freed.” Nothing on this page supports that. Leave it where it is unless moving it, gently, feels better to you. Pain means stop.
When it matters
It matters the moment touch gets too pointed. If a finger, a tongue, or a toy on the bare tip makes you flinch, come back onto the hood and try again, lighter. It matters when you are washing: folds collect a little ordinary residue, and scrubbing them raw helps nobody. Warm water, mild soap if you use any, then leave it.
It matters less than people fear when they look in a mirror and think theirs covers “too much” or “not enough.” Coverage is a style, not a grade. It also matters, medically, if the skin splits, stings and stays sore, or smells new and wrong. That is a doctor, not a firmer hand.
How common the differences are
Very. Some hoods are a whisper of skin. Some are a deeper fold you have to coax aside if you want the tip at all. Both show up on ordinary bodies. Sensitive tips under small hoods are common. Sensitive tips under larger hoods are common. A hood that barely moves until you are aroused is common too.
There is no photograph you need to match.
What you can do
Wash it like the rest of you. Don’t scrub. Don’t peel it as a project. If you want a toy in that neighborhood, keep it on the outside of the fold.
Bliss is external air-pulse: a soft opening and a light seal, body-safe silicone. It is not for slipping under the hood. A little water-based lubricant helps if skin drags. Start on the lowest setting, in your hand. If it is too much, move off the tip, turn it down, or stop. Don’t sink it. If the webpage and the card in the box disagree, trust the card.
What sits underneath the hood is in What Is the Clitoris. Whether the shape is ordinary is a different page.
